Cadets hosted the Speedway Sparkplugs for their Friday Night Lights action for Senior Night. This was the 38th meeting between the two schools with Speedway leading the series 31-7 after the victory. Cadets won the opening toss and elected to defer the opening kickoff. On the opening drive of the game, Cadets defense would get off to a hot start on an error snap from QB to Center Van Ness would get the recovery to take the momentum. Cadets offense drove down the field in 5 plays traveling 60 yards finishing off with an 18 yard touchdown run by JR Damien Appleby for his 1st career rushing touchdown at the varsity level. Cadets would be in a battle from that point forward. With 5:10 left in the first quarter, Speedway QB dropped back and found a wide open Sparkplug receiver for a 33 yard touchdown pass tying the ball game up 7-7. On the ensuing drive Cadets would hold the ball for 10 straight minutes going on a 17 play drive. Facing a 4th and 6, FR Brady Trebley booted right to find SR Devon Weigle, but the pass and catch would wind up being 1 yard short of the first down. Cadets defense would find its way back onto the field looking to stop a high-powered Speedway offense. Speedway would move the ball for a 1st down, but be forced to punt on a 4th and 8. Cadets offense would take back over on their own 22 yard line with 4:40 left to go in the half. Cadets would methodically march down the field with 1 timeout and 78 yards to go. JR Damien Appleby would start off the drive with a 15 yard run and then SR Liam Farmer would get a heavy dose of the carries. Cadets continued the ground and pound offensive attack going 62 yards on 8 plays taking 5 minutes off the clock, but Speedway would force a fumble from SR Liam Farmer and kill the drive. However, FR JT Roshong two defensive plays later would come up with a huge momentum-killing interception, giving the ball back to the Cadets in scoring position. The Cascade offense would take the field and JR Logan Gibbs would find the end zone on the rushing end to extend the lead 28-13 with 9:55 left to play. Speedway would go on an 11 play 5 minute drive the next series completing their 3rd touchdown pass of the night bringing the game 28-20 with 5:08 left to play. Cadets offense headed back on the field. Cascade would find themselves with a 4th and 2 from their own 43 yard line. Staying aggressive they would go for their 4th straight 4th down conversion, already completing 66% of them on the night. Farmer received the handoff, but was stuffed in the backfield for a loss of one, Speedway would take over in Cascade territory. Speedway needed one play as their QB took it down the left sideline untouched for a 43 yard touchdown run. Sparkplugs converted the two-point attempt to tie the game even 28-28 with 3:05 left to play. Cadets would drive the length of the field with no timeouts, thanks to two pass interference penalties that set the Cadets up with 30 yards of gain. On 1st and 10 from the 37 yard line, FR Brady Trebley dropped back to pass and found FR Toby Savini down the middle of the field giving the Cadets the ball 12 yards within the endzone. Cadets would take three shots to the end zone with 30 seconds left, but none would be completed. On 4th down, the field goal unit came out, the snap and hold were good, the kick came up hitting the crossbar and falling short, as the Cadets and Sparkplugs headed into overtime. In overtime, it was all Speedway. FR Brady Trebley dropped back and lofted a pass to SR Devon Weigle which fell in and out of his hands and into a Sparkplug defenders. Speedway took over and needed just a field goal to win. Sparkplugs QB finished his successful night and ran the ball in from 7 yards out to deal a heartbreaking loss to the Cascade Cadets.
