The Lady Cadets (0-7, 0-3 Monon) started a grueling stretch of four home games over eight days by hosting the Lady Trojans from Covington High School. The Cadets were originally scheduled to play Owen Valley on this date but schedule issues forced the date to open up with Covington stepping up to fill the open game. Covington is a 1A girls soccer program and members of the Wabash River conference. Covington is the only girls soccer team in the Wabash River Conference and this creates a need for the school to look far and wide to find soccer games. This season, the Lady Trojans (7-0-2) have put together a strong season playing larger schools. The Cadets and Trojans have met once before, the Sectional 41 Championship game in 2021, and the Cadets pulled out a 3-0 win. For the first half against Covington, the Lady Cadets played one of their technically best halves of the season. Despite giving up two goals in the first half, the Cadets did a very good job limiting the Covington offensive attack by regaining the ball in the open transition from one end to the other. Cascade held possession of the ball for more time than any other game so far this season and this possession time helped Cascade move the ball cleanly up and down the field. The halftime score showed 2-0 in favor of Covington but the Cadets and the Cadets’ coaching staff felt like their team had won the first half of the game. With some enthusiasm from the first half, the Lady Cadets took to the field for the second half looking to replicate the same effort. But when Covington scored two goals within :24 seconds in the opening minutes of the second half, the Cadets lost that first half momentum. The Cadets did show some glimpses of their first half energy but the team never regained its offensive confidence. The Lady Trojans kept pressing forward in the second half and never rested on a 4-0 lead. Covington scored two more goals to increase their lead to 6-0 and that score is where the game ended. The 6-0 loss for the Cadets drops their season record down to 0-8. The Lady Trojans’ victory improves their record to 8-0-2. The Lady Trojans will travel to Greencastle on Thursday, September 17th for their next game. The Lady Cadets will host the local rival and Sectional opponent the Lady Warriors from Danville on Wednesday evening. The start time for the Cadets v. Danville game will be 5:30 p.m. Game Summary 1H 2H Final Cascade 0 0 0 Covington 2 4 6
